“Vantage Point” (2008)
Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) and Kent Taylor (Matthew Fox), are two Secret Service agents assigned to protect President Ashton (William Hurt) at a landmark summit on the global war on terror. When President Ashton is shot moments after his arrival in Spain, chaos ensues and disparate lives collide. In the crowd is Howard Lewis, an American tourist video-taping the historic event to show his kids when he returns home. Also there is Rex, an American TV news producer who is reporting on the conference. It’s only as we follow each person’s perspective of the same 15 minutes prior to and immediately after the shooting that the terrifying truth behind the assassination attempt is revealed.

Charlie (Anton Yelchin), a wealthy, intelligent 17-year-old, has been kicked out of nearly every boarding school in town and is now enrolled in the local public high school, headed by the reluctant Principal Gardner (Academy Award® nominee Robert Downey Jr.). Initially struggling to find a place in the new school, Charlie eventually establishes himself as the supportive listener who dispenses well-needed advice, and the occasional prescription, to mixed-up teens. As intuitive Charlie befriends and emotionally influences nearly every student at Western Summit High, the entire school begins to transform into a very different place.

Anton Yelchin (who’ll next be seen in J.J Abram’s “Star Trek”), first-time director Jon Poll, and producer Jay Roach proved to be a formidable tag team at the Los Angeles press conference in support of “Charlie Bartlett.” Poll’s making his feature film directorial debut with “Charlie Bartlett,” but has been working in the entertainment industry as an editor for the past 20 years.
